Formation of Child Rights Council (CRC) by ward office dated 8th June 2026

Nepal ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989, on September 14, 1990, and has committed to ensuring the protection and promotion of the rights of children.
Accordingly, the government has been continuously engaged in improving laws and policies, formulating plans and programs, and establishing institutional mechanisms for their implementation and operation. Article 39 of the Constitution of Nepal recognizes the rights of children as fundamental rights and ensures the state policy to prioritize the best interests of children, thereby guaranteeing constitutional provisions. As of the national census of 2021, the population of children under 18 years of age is 9,869,583 (33.84%).

In the fiscal year 2080, the Kathmandu Metropolitan created a Child Club and decided to amend the Child Club to the Child Rights Council from this year 2083, and the procedural law regulation regarding the CRC will be effective from this year, as per the KMC.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Rajendra Manandhar, Chairperson of Ward 20.
The meeting began with a formal introduction of all the participants.
The executive meeting was called by different stakeholders (schools, organizations, and police).

Likewise, the child rights and their problems they overcome (at home, at school, at an organization, or anywhere) will be specifically raised in the CHILD RIGHT COUNCIL, which will be held once a month or any emergency meeting, said Manandhar.

More participants and stakeholders will be followed up with and called for the next meeting to increase the CHILD RIGHTS COUNCIL members, said Manandhar.
The next meeting will be scheduled for next month, reiterated Manadhar.
