Teacher’s day (Gurupurnima) program at CWN on 30/7/2026

Guru Purnima is a sacred festival dedicated to honoring spiritual and academic teachers, celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July). It marks the birth anniversary of sage Ved Vyasa and is widely observed across Nepal, India, and Bhutan by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. The students also offer garlands and delicacies to Gurus or teachers and receive blessings from them in return. The day is also celebrated in memory of Vedavyas, the author of 18 Puranas and 18 Upapuranas in Sanskrit. As per Hindu values, senior people in terms of knowledge, strength, and experience, and father, mother, maternal uncle, father-in-law, mother-in-law, great-grandfather, and great-grandmother are also respected as teachers. People and students are celebrating the festival with various organizations nationwide. On the other hand, people have taken to the modern form of communication technology, social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp, to pay homage to their Gurus or teachers. Likewise, Guru Purnima (Teacher’s Day) was observed across Nepal on 29 July.

A total of 22 students and five staff members attended the Teacher’s Day program at Child Welfare Nepal’s Office. The CWN Child Club, led by the acting President (Pratima Karki) in coordination with the secretary, treasurer, and general members, designed and organized the Teacher’s Day program. A formal speech regarding Teacher’s Day and its significance in one’s life was highlighted by Mr. RAJU KHADKA, Executive Director, and Pratima Karki also shared her insights on Teacher’s Day and how a good teacher creates an impact and positivity in one’s life. The majority of the girls participated in the Teacher’s Day program and also performed a traditional dance show. After the dance session, the staff members were presented with a cake, cold drinks, and chocolates by the students as part of the gift for the celebration. Pratima Karki, acting President, acknowledged that the next child club meeting has been scheduled for next Sunday (August 2).The closing of the celebration was concluded by distribution of sweets and final blessings between the students and staff members.The program commenced at 3 PM and ended at 5 PM.
